Congrats, BSU

Greetings sports fans. In case you haven’t heard, the greatest college football game ever was played on Monday night. OK, maybe I’m a little biased because my home town team came out on top, but seriously, that was insane, and I’m not alone in my opinion. The Boise State Broncos beat the heavily favored Oklahoma Sooners 43-42 in overtime in the Fiesta Bowl.

After trailing by as many as 18, Oklahoma came all the way back to tie it up in the fourth quarter on a must-have-it two point conversion with only 1:26 left in the game. KAPOW! BSU got the ball back and promptly served up an interception that Oklahoma returned for what looked to be the game winning touchdown. GADZOOKS! Seconds later BSU quarterback Jared Zabransky went from goat to hero by converting a fourth-and-18 with a fifty yard hook-and-ladder play for a touchdown with seven seconds remaining on the clock. SHABAM! Overtime.

After Adrian Peterson scored immediately for Oklahoma, BSU found themselves facing another fourth down with the game on the line. What do you do in that situation? Have your backup tailback throw a touchdown pass, I guess. ZOWIE! The inevitable extra point would send the game to overtime number two, but Boise thought better of that. First year head coach Chris Petersen decided that would be way to bland, and decided the game would end on an all or nothing two point conversion attempt. Running back Ian Johnson scored on, what else, but the ol’ "Statue of Liberty" play, which I haven’t seen since I ran it in 8th grade. KABLAMO! Ballgame.

And to top it all off, BSU’s star running back, Ian Johnson, proposed to his girlfriend, the head cheerleader, during the post game interviews. She said yes.
